Tran Thanh started his career as a comedian and emcee, so singing is something new for him. I haven’t seen him perform live, I’ve only seen him on Paris By Night. I thought he did an okay job singing “Canh Hong Phai.” Nevertheless, he’s been a hot topic ever since he’s been out promoting his new movie “Mai”.

A lot of people are talking about his singing, especially after his performance of “Sau Loi Tu Khuoc.” The online community brought up a comment made by Ha Tran last year where she criticized him for not knowing how to sing. While she praised him for his love and expertise with music, she compared his singing to her love for art but not being able to draw. Ha Tran continued that she hopes he keeps trying and, maybe one day, he can sing and she can draw. On top of it all, this was at a live concert where the two then proceeded to duet a song. Tran Thanh was also a big fan of Ha Tran at the time.
Even if Ha Tran had meant well, she could have phrased it better. Ha Tran has been notorious for her attitude and straightforwardness for quite some time, so I’m not surprised. Tran Thanh has come a long way from comedy to hosting shows. He’s now acting, directing and producing. I’m happy to see movies like “Mai” and “A Fragile Flower” appearing at the U.S. box office. I hope our movie industry continues to grow and expand over time.
