MISS USA Makes An Apology For Mocking Both MISS VIETNAM And MISS CAMBODIA For Not Being Fluent In English

Why am I not surprised? There seems to be controversies and scandals coming out of the MISS UNIVERSE competitions and most are RACIST in nature. This time round it sounds like MISS USA needs to put a sock in her mouth and really look at her white privilege and be sensitive when she makes public comments. She also needs a huge reminder that MISS UNIVERSE is an international competition and not everyone has to speak English – like seriously what the fuck and STFU! She has since issues an apology ( which we will mention at the end of the post)
The competition has a few more days before it starts in Thailand but MISS USA Sarah Rose Summers, MISS COLUMBIA Valeria Morales and MISS AUSTRALIA Francesca Hung went on some weird social media gossip thing where Summers mocked how MISS VIETNAM speaks English and then states that MISS CAMBODIA doesn’t even speak English. It is like ummmmm there are no rules which state that MISS UNIVERSE contestants must speak English – so just go cry yourself a river. In addition, why is MISS COLUMBIA and MISS AUSTRALIA joining in and endorsing this shit? Both are not white and are WOC and I am especially disappointed in MISS AUSTRALIA Hung, who stated that MISS CAMBODIA not speaking English is isolating – like come on, you are part Asian and you have spoken publicly about your identity crisis being Asian and how you have now embraced your culture.

You can see the video which was originally posted on MISS COLUMBIA, Morales’ Instagram (looks like been removed), but others have since posted the video, and Summers pretty much says:
“WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MISS VIETNAM H’HEN NIE?
SHE IS SO CUTE AND PRETENDS TO KNOW SO MUCH ENGLISH, BUT WHEN YOU ASK HER A QUESTION AFTER HAVING A WHOLE CONVERSATION WITH HER, SHE GOES ( and makes a mocking face of Nie and then makes a derogatory laugh )
HAHAHAHA. SHE IS SO ADORABLE. “
She then goes
“MISS CAMBODIA IS HERE AND DOESN’T SPEAK ANY ENGLISH AND NO ONE ELSE SPEAKS HER LANGUAGE, CAN YOU IMAGINE?
FRANCESCA SAID THAT WOULD BE SO ISOLATING, AND I SAID YES AND JUST CONFUSING ALL THE TIME”

Again, I would like to say that English is not a prerequisite, and since when is speaking English a determinant of how a person is and how they will perform? MISS UNIVERSE competitions have interpreters, so really there is no issues.
Anyways, it seems that there was backlash over the video calling out this bullying behavior and saying that it is shameful because MISS UNIVERSE is meant to be an ambassador against bullying. I tend to agree with this, the bitchy, catty attitudes need to stop and the other 2 were Summers enablers, so you can already see the cliques forming there. Anyways, according to TMZ, Summers has since apologized and both her and her mother have stated that the comments were taken out of context:
9:45 AM — Sarah has issued an apology on her Instagram … she says, “In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize.”
Sarah also says she would be “grateful” for an opportunity to discuss the matter with Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam.
8:02 AM — We just spoke to Summers’ mom, Desiree, and she tells TMZ … her daughter’s comments were taken out of context. She says, “She in no way meant any harm. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.” As for imitating Miss Vietnam, Desiree says, “[Summers] was just recreating how Miss Vietnam acts when she doesn’t understand what someone is saying. She wasn’t trying to mock her.”
Do you think this is adequate and acceptable? Maybe, but all this should not even have had to happen at the start – why go on social media and bitch about other contestants? Why not be what MISS UNIVERSE competitions are meant to be? Really, I wish all the bad luck onto Summers in her bid in the competition.
