Group OPlus: 'Overseas audiences more relaxing than domestically'

Newly launched their second album, the group OPlus – X-Factor 2014 runners-up travel to the US to tour for two months. The group said that the event were very well received and loved. Thương nghệ sĩ và dễ tính hơn (trong nước) là cảm nhận của nhóm về khán giả người Việt ở nước ngoài.

How overseas audiences enjoy the music of OPlus?
OPlus shows two pieces of music: young vibrant and old music, but completely refreshed – this is also the project of the group’s upcoming debut. OPlus is very happy to be welcomed and loved by overseas audiences. It is not easy for a group of 4 people like OPlus to tour USA. Because the cost to the group is always more expensive than the singer.
During the overseas tour, OPlus members remember something memorable?
On this American tour, 3Em (the management company of OPlus as well as a lot of Vietnamese singers in the US) welcomes the tourists to live at Michelle’s house – who we are often referred to as “Boss lady”. The family of Tuan Hung, OPlus, Water Color Band, Yen Le, Maya, Hoang Son Soobin, Cao Thai Son, and Ung Dai Dai … are here. There are up to 25 people in the house. This is unprecedented in Vietnam. Many happy memories of daily activities together, luggage traveling together and then back home together.
What are all the members hindering the group? How did you overcome that restriction?
The biggest obstacle is vocal technique, music knowledge. We overcome by self-study, self-singing, self-learning to play guitar to be able to build rafts, post cards for each other. Until now, the songs that OPlus sung acapella, or friends together, are all loved and appreciated.
A few milestones in the development and success of the group? Which character (s) play an important role in your career?
The first milestone was XFactor, and the first person to mark that milestone was musician Phuong Uyen. She is the respectable sister to whom the group is extremely grateful. Up to now, I have always been with OPlus when we needed it. The next milestone is Vol 1’s album, we are still young, along with musician Duong Khac Linh, our X-Factor coach. With OPlus, Linh is like a friend, always teacious joke. The next milestone was the meeting with Mr. Tuan Hung, he was “affectionate” and also he was “feeling” and his wholehearted help to become a member of her sister Michelle in the United States. The closest mark is the Smooth album, OPlus featuring Zen musician. Mr. Zen and OPlus are close brothers who have been playing together since we were not singing professionally.
It is said that Duc Tung members have some songs used by singers. Why did not the group sing Tung’s music but use the whole song of an unknown artist for a new album?
The group is recording two new songs by Tung and will be coming out next time. The album’s vol.2 uses Zen’s song as part of their group’s plan to create a color album. Hopefully with Tung’s songs, OPlus will continue to break through and succeed as another single when singing Tung’s song.
Most of the bands in Vietnam, including well-trained management groups, are short-lived, and the members quickly split up solo. Do not know what the “fate” Oplus will be? What is the commitment between the members to keep the group?
OPlus team up, come together as a close friend, sing for fun, passionate but do not think to become a professional singer. So we are like brothers and sisters, always thinking, doing the same for each other, for each other. We do not give any text to tie together. Affection will keep OPlus companion. Of course living by the “group” is also an important factor (laughs). OPlus is ambitious but we are all rolling around so be happy and appreciate what you have. Perhaps this is the most different between OPlus and the established groups to go professional singing, make money for the company…

Tuấn Hưng nói chinh phục thị trường trong nước khó hơn hải ngoại. Các bạn nghĩ sao?
Hoàn toàn chính xác. Khi đã sang được Mỹ, được diễn cho kiều bào nghe, để lại ấn tượng tốt, thì những lần sau với OPlus dễ dàng hơn rất nhiều. Khán giả ở đây không quá khó tính như khán giả trong nước, mọi người dễ “thương” nghệ sĩ hơn, dễ đồng cảm và vô tư hơn. Trong khi đó thị trường trong nước rộng lớn, nhiều cạnh tranh, khán giả nhiều lựa chọn hơn và nghệ sĩ cũng cần nhiều yếu tố kết hợp để đến gần hơn với số đông. OPlus muốn và phải chinh phục cả khán giả trong và ngoài nước, nhưng chúng tôi không nóng vội.
