YouTuber Ryan Higa and Friends Form ‘BGA’, Take #1 iTunes Spot
When a K-Pop parody boyband outdoes the real boyband competition, industry insiders must be choking on their kimchi slightly. Popular YouTuber Ryan Higa and four friends have created ‘BGA’, standing for Boys Generally Asian, and have produced two songs, the second of which, ‘Who’s it Gonna Be’, has climbed to number one on the K-Pop iTunes chart. Released on March 24, the song, which wonders out loud who will ‘go solo’ first, has outperformed new releases by established K-Pop favourites like Monsta X, GOT7 and BTS, among others.
Documenting the process of forming the band (important stuff like choosing their colours) and performing in two music videos posted on Ryan’s channel, we must admit that they are pretty hilarious. Luckily for them, K-Pop fans must have a strong sense of humour too, because at the time of writing, ‘Who’s it Gonna Be’ and ‘I need to take a sh*t’ were still at number one and number ten respectively.
