DJ EFN LIGHTS UP VIETNAMESE HIP-HOP CULTURE

by Ricky Head · March 29, 2017

Suboi, Wowy and Dan Nguyen show up in ‘Coming Home: Vietnam’
Eric F. Narciandi, otherwise known as DJ EFN, has been working in hip hop under the guise of his production company Crazy Hood since the early 90s, mostly based in Miami. Now, in the fourth instalment of his ‘Coming Home’ series for REVOLT TV – where he’s been exploring the influence, and infiltration of hip hop culture around the world (they’ve previously been to Cuba, Peru and Haiti), they’ve now visited Vietnam.
“The beauty of travelling and doing these films, which are strictly focused on hip-hop, is that each country has its own vibe,” EFN told VIBE magazine. “We get to see how each country has interpreted hip-hop and the culture.”
Making their way around Vietnam and linking up with some of the country’s most prominents MC’s, they meet our gal Suboi, who guides them through what it means to be a girl doing rap for a living in this country. She recalls her well documented experience of doing exactly that with Obama, which EFN said reflected the impact the sub-culture has made worldwide.
“That happening really represents what our journey and this film is,” he said. “We’re showing you how big hip-hop is to the point where the president of the United States is being greeted by a rapper from Vietnam and that’s how they’re communicating.”
